Join us for the evening at Iowa Interfaith Power & Light’s Annual Faith in a Changing Climate Reception, Thursday, October 8.

Climate ChampionsThree Climate Champions will be recognized at the dinner, which features keynote speaker Father Robert “Bud” Grant, professor of theology at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. Grant will be speaking on “From St. Francis to Pope Francis: A Theology of Relationship with All God’s Creation.

The dinner and reception will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Catholic Diocese of Des Moines, 601 Grand Ave., in Des Moines. Reservations are necessary for the event and are $60 per person, which includes dinner ($25 of which supports the mission of Iowa Interfaith Power & Light and is tax-deductible).

Host levels are available for this reception:

  • Champion — $2,500.
  • Protector — $1,200.
  • Patron — $600.
  • Guardian — $250.

Benefits at the Champion, Protector and Patron levels include a table of up to eight people. Guardian Hosts will receive two reservations.

This year’s event will feature awards for three Climate Champions:

  • Bishop Richard Pates, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Des Moines.
  • First Lutheran Church in Decorah, Iowa.
  • The Indianola Green Team from Indianola, Iowa.

Due to construction, the parking ramp where we initially directed our reception guests is closed. We now have a revised plan for parking (see map for details):

  • Parking for Oct 8Park in the Diocese parking lot west of the Bishop’s Residence in the 600 block of High Street.
  • Handicapped parking is behind the Diocese building, accessible from Sixth Avenue.
  • Street parking at meters is free after 6 p.m.

We also urge you to sign our “I Stand With Pope Francis” petition. Iowa Interfaith Power & Light is gathering signatures by people of faith in Iowa in support of Pope Francis’s encyclical on the environment. We will be delivering this petition and signatures to our Iowa members of Congress prior to Pope Francis’s address to Congress in September.
