In preparation for the upcoming UN Paris climate conference, join us to view a documentary on the climate change battle.

Iowa Interfaith Power & Light is one of the sponsors for the screening of “Merchants of Doubt” on Sunday, Nov. 15, at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 4126 Ingersoll Ave.

Events start at 3 p.m. with a news conference featuring Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie, who will speak about his upcoming trip to the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, which is being held in Paris from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.

The film will begin around 3:30 p.m., with discussion to follow, beginning about 5:15 p.m. “Merchants of Doubt” is a documentary that looks at pundits-for-hire who present themselves as scientific authorities as they speak about topics like toxic chemicals, pharmaceuticals and climate change.

It is especially timely with the approach of the upcoming international conference Cownie will attend in Paris, the objective of which is to achieve universal and binding agreements to reduce carbon emissions to reduce the projected rise in worldwide temperatures and slow the rate of human-caused climate change.

The event takes place in the Plymouth church’s Waveland Hall. Other sponsors of the screening/news conference are Des Moines Interfaith Green Coalition, Citizens Climate Lobby and the Central Iowa Sierra Club. The event is hosted by the Plymouth Green Team.
