Iowa Interfaith Power & Light seeks a part-time Communications and Development Associate. The chosen candidate will work with the Executive Director to plan, oversee, and implement Iowa IPL’s communications and development work as part of our mission to inspire and equip people of faith to become leaders finding solutions to climate change.

Iowa IPL inspires Iowa’s faith communities to embrace environmental stewardship as central to their religious convictions. We work together as people of faith to address climate change, to lead by example in reducing our individual and collective carbon footprints, and to advocate for sustainable energy policies for the benefit of present and future generations.

Summary:

Iowa IPL’s Communications and Development Associate is responsible for planning and coordinating Iowa IPL’s communications strategies and assisting with development strategies, under the direction of its Executive Director.  Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Plan, oversee, and implement Iowa IPL communications strategies, including earned and social media, and email communications
  2. Work with staff to identify potential media opportunities and prepare press releases with the approval of the Executive Director
  3. Manage and update the Iowa IPL website
  4. Manage and update the Iowa IPL database
  5. Assist the Executive Director in coordinating development initiatives, including congregational memberships and development of donor base
  6. Assist with annual fundraising letters and mailings
  7. Coordinate donor correspondence, donor data entry, and donor recognition
  8. Work closely with Iowa IPL staff and committees to assist with event planning and marketing
  9. Assist with Iowa IPL events as needed
  10. Assist with additional special projects
  11. Maintain communications with the Executive Director
  12. Support all Iowa IPL committees and task groups on an as needed basis
  13. Implement other priorities as directed by the Executive Director

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, in addition to:

  • Prior work experience in communications planning, including website and social media communications
  • Experience with media outreach including press events, media advisories, and press releases
  • Experience with WordPress or other website system
  • Experience with Salsa or other database management systems
  • Project leadership experience
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, including public speaking and writing
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven capacity to set realistic goals and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with diverse groups of people
  • Self-motivation and initiative
  • Flexible daytime and weekend schedule
  • A passion for Iowa IPL’s mission

Additional desirable traits include:

  • Experience working in a non-profit setting

The Communications and Development Associate reports to the Executive Director. The position may require travel within Iowa as well as evening and weekend availability (travel reimbursed). Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Compensation:

This is a part-time salaried position based on an average of 20 hours per week. Salary TBD based on experience.
