2017 Lenten Calendar

by | Feb 13, 2017 | News

A NEW 2017 Lenten calendar is now available for use in your congregation. This year’s calendar takes its theme from our new program, The Good Life Redefined, which explores how our cultural obsession with stuff is driving climate change and how our faith traditions call us to live in harmony with each other and the earth.

The calendar invites you to make a Lenten commitment to purchase more mindfully in a manner that respects our finite resources and the finite ability of our planet to absorb waste and the greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change.

“Many people know that our current progress and the mere amassing of things and pleasures are not enough to give meaning and joy to the human heart, yet they feel unable to give up what the market sets before them.” – Pope Francis

Ash Wednesday invites us to reflect on our purpose in life. The Good Life Redefined workshop invites us to delve into
that question and to find greater meaning in our lives. Are we primarily consumers as our society tells us, or are we children of an infinite God? The suggestions in this calendar will help us examine our buying habits, release ourselves from the tight hold the market has on us, and purchase with the planet in mind.
