Faith Statement on Climate Change Update

by | Jan 13, 2021 | Featured, News

We invite all Iowans of faith and conscience to join us by signing onto Called to Uphold Our Values & Upheave Injustice: 2020 Iowa Interfaith Statement on Climate Action written by Iowa IPL’s five summer college student leaders. This year we are inviting religious leaders, clergy, laity, students, and anyone that resonates with our statement to sign-on.

Our goal is to have 1,000 Iowans sign our statement by February 1st, 2021. We will share this powerful statement written by young Iowans of faith and conscience and endorsed by all of us with our state and federal elected officials in early February..

The statement is not a policy agenda. This is a statement of values that all Iowans regardless of political party affiliation can use to inspire the work of environmental justice. It’s clear our students, working deeply in their own faith traditions and reflecting on the values shared across diverse faith traditions, were inspired to create a profound statement and call to action grounded in the most urgent issues of this moment in human history: a public health response to COVID-19, the movement for racial justice, pursuing economic justice, and taking climate action.

We are actively adding signatures from individuals as well as faith-based organizations. Please add your name through this webpage. Below are faith-based organizations already signed on. If you don’t see your own organization, please reach out and encourage them to endorse. And share this widely with your family, friends, and networks to ensure we reach as many Iowans as possible to proclaim that as people of faith and conscience we are Called to Climate Action.
