Monarchs and Asters by Rick Exner

The end of the year tends to allow for reflection and a look back on all we have accomplished. As 2021 draws to a close, our organization has much to be grateful for.

We have had staffing changes: the addition of myself to our team, a farewell to both Mary Swalla Holmes and Matt Russell, and the incredible new leadership of Irene DeMaris. We’ve implemented new programs and events like Iowa Gives Green and our Book Club event. And we continue to be impressed with the dedication of our supporters. Every financial situation is different, especially with the ever-present pandemic. But contributions come in all forms, and we appreciate whatever way you are willing to give: engaging with our social media and action alerts, participating in our programs, and/or signing our annual faith statements.

Our 2021/22 Faith Statement: Awe-Inspiring Climate Action, was created by our 2021 Called to Climate Action student leaders: Claira Miller and Parker Laney. The faith statement outlines how we are called to serve our community by lifting our neighbors and supporting a healthy and sustainable society. Whether you are motivated by your faith or the morality of your own conscience, all Iowans are encouraged to read and sign.

With your help, we hope to send our faith statement to local legislators in 2022 to show just how imperative climate action is and to showcase the talent of our college students.Together we are changing the world for future generations by investing in emerging environmental leaders. If we hope to take climate action for our children and grandchildren, there is no time to waste. The evidence continues to mount. We look to the future when we take bold and just action in the present to combat the climate crisis.

Again, we thank you for your continued support of Iowa IPL. We are excited for 2022 and the plans we have for expanding our programs and growing our network! I am very grateful for our wonderful supporters and getting to know you all better this year, and am eager to connect with more of you in the new year. With your help, we are making a difference. Your support ensures the continued success of our college student leader program, the implementation of new events to connect with and meet our supporters, and the opportunity to advertise our organization. We hope to keep doing all of these things and more next year!
