Please join us on Sunday, May 1st at 1:30 PM, for David Thoreson’s presentation, “Over the Horizon: An Explorer’s Journey to Climate Change,” at Plymouth United Church of Christ, 4126 Ingersoll Ave., Des Moines.
David Thoreson, professional photographer, sailor, and explorer, will share his eyewitness accounts of the effects of climate change with Plymouth. Thoreson has sailed 70,000 miles across the world’s oceans and polar regions documenting with his photographs the profound changes global warming has wrought—calving glaciers, displaced and endangered wildlife, and struggling communities.
An exhibit of Thoreson’s photographs will be available for public viewing in Plymouth’s Gallery, on the Ingersoll side of the Church, from March 5th to April 30th.
Exploring the Artic led Thoreson to the issue of climate change, he says, and he now “hopes to inspire others to explore their own connections to nature, especially water quality issues.”
Thoreson will also lead a special discussion targeted toward middle school and high school youth on May 1st, 10 a.m., at Plymouth.
These events are sponsored by the Plymouth Creation Care & Justice Coalition, the Interfaith Green Coalition, and Iowa Interfaith Power & Light. Please wear a mask when participating in events inside Plymouth Church. Visit Plymouth’s webpage for further information.
