In 2022, he retired after 20 years in the Iowa Legislature, four years in the House and 16 years in the Senate, representing the people in his district in Cedar Rapids. He is an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Rapids, where Rob led the recent installation of a 45 kilowatt solar power system.

Diana Smith (she/her), who has served as the minister of the Unitarian Universalist Society in Coralville, Iowa since 2020. She previously served Unitarian Universalist congregations near Seattle and in Boston. Prior to following the call to ordained congregational ministry, she developed community involvement and pro-environmental behavior change programs and policies for local, state, and tribal governments in Washington state and British Columbia. She holds a Master of Divinity from Andover Newton Theological School, a Master of Arts in Community and Environmental Planning from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Oberlin College. She is passionate about shared ministry, the natural world, the arts, nurturing our place amidst the wonder of the universe, justice, the power of relationship, and UU congregations.

An ordained Mennonite minister, Karla serves as the Climate Justice coordinator for Mennonite Church USA. An avid gardener and parent of two energetic children, Karla has worked on at least a dozen small-scale, diversified farms in Iowa and several other states. She holds a Master of Divinity degree in theological studies with an emphasis in ecological theology and ethics from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana, and a bachelors degree in Biology and Agriculture from Eastern Mennonite University. This video is the fourth in series of 8 videos from an event called “Climate-informed Ministry: What Do We Do Now?” It features Karin Stein, Iowa Coordinator for Moms Clean Air Force, a national organization of over 1.5 million members dedicated to protecting children from air pollution and the climate crisis. Before moving to Kellogg, Iowa, in 1980, Karin, a Colombian citizen, lived in Costa Rica. The granddaughter of German immigrants to South America, she grew up on a remote, off-the-grid cattle and rice farm in the eastern plains of Colombia, where she was homeschooled. She traces her understanding of the earth as an interconnected organism to her first 11 years in the wilderness and by having spent her entire life in rural areas in the Americas. She obtained a B.A. in biology from Grinnell College and a M.S. in horticulture from Iowa State University. She and her siblings direct a watershed conservation foundation in Costa Rica. Karin has been a nationally and internationally touring musician for 21 years, and she recently started an initiative to reduce the environmental impact of the performing arts.
